Buffalo's Bishop Richard J. Malone will dedicate and bless the Mother Teresa Home on Thursday, Aug. 25, the eve of Mother Teresa's birthday. Located at the former St. Adalbert Church rectory, 208 Stanislaus St., Buffalo, the home will serve as a temporary residence for homeless, pregnant women and young mothers while transitioning back into the world.
Mother Teresa Home opens doors and hearts to new mothers

Home is where Cheryl Calire's heart is. After a year of cleaning, carpentry and more cleaning, she will open the Mother Teresa Home, a place for women who have chosen life to live. The ribbon-cutting and dedication will take place Thursday, Aug. 25, with Bishop Richard J. Malone blessing the house.
Sisters raise money with 'Burgers, Brews and Blues'

In 1990, a Sister of St. Joseph serving at St. Mary of Sorrows Parish on the East Side of Buffalo got the idea to start a residence for homeless women after noticing how many young women were wandering the neighborhood's streets. After seven years, Sister Mary Augusta Kaiser, SSJ started the Teaching and Restoring Youth program.

EAST AURORA — Christ the King Seminary will offer a new course, Ministry Essentials: Introductions to Catholic Teachings, this fall. The course will offer foundational information on Catholic teachings, including essential themes, history and vocabulary for faith formation and other parish ministries. Dennis Mahaney, M.Div., director of evangelization and parish life for the diocese, will serve as the primary instructor for the class, along with seminary faculty and guest lecturers.

Last month, Cardinal O'Hara High School in Tonawanda welcomed fifth- through eighth-graders to its campus for its 2016 summer camps. Tailored toward specific interests, they included a summer enrichment camp for a variety of academic subjects, an acting and singing camp, and a creative writing camp, in addition to a lineup of three sports clinics for youth to engage in baseball, football and soccer.

It's that time of year again: time for the Bagley Open. All are welcome to participate in the 10th anniversary celebration of the Bagley Open and Charity Dinner, held Thursday, Aug. 11 at Deerwood Golf Course in North Tonawanda. The cost of the nine-hole event is $75, which includes golf, a steak dinner at Classics V Banquet Hall, and some great golf goodies. Saints... you can sense their influence, in a mysterious way even their presence, everywhere in Kraków. St. John Paul II and St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, of course, are prominent. Then there is the cell at Auschwitz that memorializes St. Maximilian Kolbe, who gave his life so that another prisoner could live. Today I offered catechesis and celebrated Eucharist with hundreds of pilgrims from Ireland in a parish church dedicated to the great St. Casimir.

Father Zilliox named to Bowmansville parish

Bishop Richard J. Malone has appointed Father Robert W. Zilliox Jr. pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Bowmansville, for a term of six years. In his new role, which began August 1, he takes over for Father Joseph Klos who retired in May. Father Zilliox will continue to serve as judge and defender of the bond in the Tribunal of the Diocese of Buffalo, a position he has held since 2013.
Catholic Academy of West Buffalo paints for a brighter future

Catholic Academy of West Buffalo will receive 40 gallons of paint to refresh its learning environment. Catholic Academy was selected as the winner of a paint grant through Dibble True Value's partnership with True Value Foundation's "Painting a Brighter Future" program. The grant helps to renew an atmosphere that sets a positive tone for educators to teach and children to learn.

A priest mentioned how an ordinary student could become a priest if God was calling him. That priest, Father Michael Gallagher, assisted Msgr. Msgr. Anthony J. Caligiuri, a retired diocesan priest and former Director of Communications for the Diocese of Buffalo, died July 27 in Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarence. He was 92.
