Youth and adults gathered to celebrate youth ministry on Nov. 15 at the third annual Witness the Spirit awards presentation, held at Mount St. Mary Academy in Kenmore. The evening saw people of all ages being recognized for the work and support of youth ministry.

In its preparation for the October 2014 Extraordinary General Synod of Bishops on the theme "The Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the Context of Evangelization," the Holy See is asking the world's bishops to consult "widely" among the Catholic faithful. So it is that there is a questionnaire, provided by the Vatican, available on this website.

Pope Benedict XVI announced on Feb. 11, 2013, that he will resign, effective Feb. 28, 2013. At Vatican City, he told a gathering of cardinals, "After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths due to an advanced age are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only by words and deeds but no less with prayer and suffering."

Sister Carol Cimino, SSJ, Ed.D., a national consultant, college professor and author, will be introduced on Jan. 31 at the "Making a Difference Dinner - A Celebration of Catholic Schools," which will be held at the Buffalo/Niagara Convention Center.

Soon we will go to the polls to cast our votes for the president and vice president of the United States, congressional representatives, and state and local officials. When exercising our voting rights, we are not only acting as good citizens. We are also putting our faith into concrete action. Catholics, by virtue of our baptism, are called to be salt to the earth and light to the world. We must not hide our light under a bushel basket, but rather courageously defend our moral principles and promote human dignity and the common good in the public square.

With incense in the air and "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling" being sung, Bishop Richard J. Malone took his next steps towards becoming 14th bishop of Buffalo, presiding over Evening Prayer at St. Louis Church in downtown Buffalo on Aug. 9. More than 200 diocesan and religious order priests from Buffalo, Maine and Boston gave the bishop a sustained ovation as he made his way down the longest aisle in the Diocese of Buffalo.
