Catholic Health has appointed William B. Pryor to the position of chief administrative officer. Pryor comes to Catholic Health from Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, N.C., where he served as chief human resource officer for the past 10 years.

Catholic Health conducted a nationwide search to fill the newly-created position, which will lead human resources, marketing, public relations and communications for the Buffalo-based health system.

"An engaged, quality-driven workforce and effective internal and external communications are critical elements as we continue to fulfill our mission to deliver the highest quality health care to our community," said Mark Sullivan, president and CEO of Catholic Health. "Bill is a great addition to our senior leadership team and the right person to lead these key areas as we begin a pivotal new chapter in our service to the Western New York community."

Sullivan, who was named President & CEO of Catholic Health earlier this year, is leading the organization through a comprehensive, multi-year strategic planning process to shape the future direction of the 20-year-old health system.

"From a human resources and communications perspective, Bill will bring valuable insight into this process," Sullivan said. "He has a wealth of experience in cultural and organizational development and talent management, which will be a tremendous asset as we begin to develop and implement our exciting vision for the future."

A native of Washington, D.C., Pryor has nearly 30 years of administrative and human resources experience in large metropolitan hospitals and health systems. His work experience includes executive positions at Mercy Health System (formerly Catholic Healthcare Partners) in Cincinnati, Ohio; Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C.; and Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He earned his undergraduate degree in Government and Urban Studies from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and his master's of education in Administration in Institutional Policy Studies from the University of Chicago.

Pryor is expected to join Catholic Health in early 2019.

"I am honored and excited to work alongside the associates, physicians, volunteers and board members of Catholic Health, a premier health care system," Pryor said. "It will be my goal to help Catholic Health continue to fulfill its mission to the best of my ability."

Active in a number of academic, civic and cultural organizations in the Fayetteville community, Pryor is looking forward to getting acquainted with the Buffalo-Niagara region.

"We are thrilled we could recruit someone with Bill's talent and expertise to Western New York," Sullivan said. "I am confident he will make an immediate impact within Catholic Health and our community at large."
