Bishop Richard J. Malone has announced that during the Advent season (Nov. 27 - Dec. 24), parishes throughout the eight-county Diocese of Buffalo will have additional hours for confession.  The bishop instituted "The light is on for you" program in the diocese last Advent as part of the Year of Mercy.  The goal was to make the sacrament of penance more accessible, especially during the seasons of Advent and Lent.

Since Advent opens the liturgical year for the church, experiencing healing and forgiveness is way to start the year anew.  For some people, it may be several years or even decades since they have experienced the sacrament of penance.  For others, confession times may have not been convenient for their schedules. By opening up churches, by "leaving the light on" more often, parishes are welcoming people to come home and reconnect with Christ and the church.

Visit the Diocese of Buffalo website for a list of times for confessions and penance services, or consult your local parish.
