Catholic Medical Partners, the area's largest network of independent physicians, is pleased to announce that Thomas P. Lawrence, MD, MBA, has been named president and CEO. A Western New York native, Lawrence will be returning to the area to lead the nearly 1,000 member, multi-specialty Independent Practice Association. Over the past decade, Catholic Medical Partners, which includes Catholic Health and its member hospitals, has grown to become one of the country's leading authorities on population health management.
Lawrence comes to Catholic Medical Partners from Innovative Health Alliance of New York, a clinically integrated network in Albany, where he served as chief medical officer. Prior to that, he was the president of Mount Carmel Medical Group in Columbus; chief medical officer of St. Peter's Health Partners Medical Associates in Albany; chief medical officer and vice president of Peninsula Regional Medical Group, and chief medical officer and vice president of Medical Affairs for Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.

"Dr. Lawrence is a talented physician with a strong background in medical staff leadership, population health, clinical transformation, and value-based care," said CMP Board Chair Kristen Robillard, MD, who has also been serving as interim president and CEO. "We're excited to welcome him to Catholic Medical Partners. His extensive experience and strategic approach to navigating the complexities of health care are perfectly aligned with our organization's goals and mission."

Born and raised in Buffalo, Lawrence began his medical career in Western New York, holding several clinical and administrative positions, including serving as president and CEO of Southern Tier Independent Physicians Association. He earned his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (Medical College Virginia), in Richmond, Va., and received his master's of business administration degree from St. Bonaventure University. He is a graduate of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in Kenmore and received his bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he also completed his family medicine residency.

"Over the past two decades Catholic Health and CMP have partnered together to make health care more efficient, affordable and accessible, while leading the region in quality and safety," said Mark Sullivan, president and CEO of Catholic Health. "I look forward to working with Dr. Lawrence and our physician partners as we continue to transform care throughout Western New York to improve the health of our patients and community."

Lawrence will officially assume his role on Feb. 18. "Catholic Medical Partners is an accomplished organization that strives to improve health care delivery by focusing on preventative care and refining the patient experience, while supporting physicians with the tools and resources to thrive as independent practitioners," said Lawrence. "I look forward to working with our network of exceptional physicians to positively impact the delivery of high quality health care in my hometown."
