The World Meeting of Families was held in September in Philadelphia. Pope Francis, the fourth pope to visit the United States attended this, the world's largest Catholic gathering of families. Held every three years and sponsored by the Holy See's Pontifical Council for the Family, this year's theme was "Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive."

Father Paul D. Seil, host of Our Daily Bread, cooked with Nancy Scherr, director of the Office of Family Life Ministries. As they prepared a meal together, they spoke about the importance of affirming the family and the impact of love and life that families have in our society.

"Like many folks of my generation, I grew up with family meals at 5:30 p.m. On Sundays, it was at the house of one of my grandmothers," Father Seil said. "I never knew about a drive-through meal. There seems to be a rediscovery of the family meal and of disengaging from the pace of society and technology and re-engaging with one another."

Tune in to "Our Daily Bread" on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 5:30 a.m. and noon on WKBW-TV Ch. 7 to hear more about family life and ministries offered through the Diocese of Buffalo. On the menu: grilled salmon, potatoes brushed with olive oil curry, Swiss chard and packets with local stone fruit were cooked on the grill, then topped with mascarpone cheese and sweet marsala wine. Check the website at www.odbtv.org for the recipes.
