Sister Mary Veronica DelVecchio, OSF, 1912-2015

Sister Mary Veronica DelVecchio died Sept. 8, 2015, at St. Mary of the Angels Regional House in Williamsville. She was 103.

She was born July 10, 1912, in Rochester, to Nicholas and Lena (Vella) DelVecchio. She joined the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Divine Child, now the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities, in 1935 and received a bachelor's degree from Rosary Hill, now Daemen College in Amherst. Sister Mary Veronica also completed graduate studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Sister Mary Veronica taught for 52 years in schools throughout the Diocese of Buffalo, including St. Pius X Mission Center in Batavia, Immaculate Conception Mission Center in Belmont, Our Lady of Loretto and Holy Cross in Buffalo and Our Lady of Fatima Mission Center in Cattaraugus.

She also served as a census worker in diocesan parishes in 36 years and served as a receptionist and secretary at Turner/Carroll High School in Buffalo for seven years. She was a community administrator for the order for 14 years, as well as a prayer minister, coordinator, treasurer and council member.

She is survived by a sister, Lena DelVecchio, nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held in the chapel of St. Mary of the Angels Regional House, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery on the convent grounds.
