Sister Rosemarie Stuhler, OSF, 1922-2015

Sister Rosemarie Stuhler died Aug. 26, 2015, at the Stella Niagara Health Center in Stella Niagara, at age 92.

She was born Mildred E. Stuhler, on Sept. 9, 1922, in Buffalo, to Frank D. and Rose Marie (Baumann) Stuhler. Sister Rosemarie joined the Sisters of St. Francis in Stella Niagara in 1940 and professed final vows in 1942. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Mount St. Joseph Teachers' College, now Medaille College in Buffalo, and a master's degree from Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee.

Sister Rosemarie began teaching at St. Michael School in Buffalo, later serving at St. Peter School in Lewiston and Stella Niagara Normal Elementary School in Stella Niagara. She went on to serve as a teacher and principal at St. Lawrence School in Buffalo, Stella Niagara Elementary School and St. Mary School in New Monmouth, N.J. She also served in the school office of Our Lady of Pompeii School in Lancaster.

She retired in 1996, living at St. Benedict Convent and Sacred Heart Academy Convent in Buffalo until 2009, when she returned to the health care center of the order's motherhouse in Stella Niagara.

Sister Rosemarie is survived by a sister, Arlene M. Weiss; two sisters-in-law, Dolores and Gladys Stuhler, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held in the Sisters' Chapel in Stella Niagara, with burial in Stella Niagara Cemetery.
