Part of their mission statement reads, "We are God's people, at work in the world, motivated by love and caring for the people of God who need our help."  Who are "they," you ask? Little Portion Friary, located on Main Street in Buffalo.

Providing up to 30 days of emergency shelter for adult men and women, Little Portion Friary is a group that comes together to offer services to the homeless.

On this month's "Our Daily Bread," Father Paul D. Seil, host and pastor of St. Bernadette Parish in Orchard Park, is in the kitchen with Marsha, one of the cooks at Little Portion Friary, who teaches Father Seil how to prepare food for a crowd. (Those who serve there do not use their surnames.)

"On Mondays, we receive donations of fresh food at Little Portion Friary," Marsha said. "Boxes of vegetables and fruit will come in, and are placed on the dining room table. From donations, I can usually create a nice side dish."

The day Daybreak was shooting at Little Portion Friary, Marsha and Father Seil chose onions and sweet potatoes to create a delicious and hearty side dish to accompany the meatloaf and salad they were serving. Father Seil also spoke to Sister Jane, a volunteer at Little Portion Friary, who explained how the house operates on a day-to-day basis.

So mark your calendar and tune in to "Our Daily Bread" on Saturday, June 13, at 5:30 a.m. and noon on WKBW-TV Channel 7 to learn more about Little Portion Friary.
