Sister Theresa Eugene LeClaire, OSF (1919-2015)

Sister Theresa Eugene LeClair went to the Lord Jan. 2, 2015, in the health care center of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany.

Jeannette Leona LeClair was born May 23, 1919, in Westbrook, Maine, to Harry J. and Eugenie (Lefebvre) LeClair.

She joined the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany in 1946 and made her final vows in 1953.

She attended St. Elizabeth Teacher's College in Allegany, now part of St. Bonaventure University, and received a bachelor's degree in education in 1965. Sister Theresa Eugene taught religious education in Massachusetts, New York and Florida, and was principal of St. Anthony's School in Pensacola, Fla.

After retiring from full-time teaching in 1992, Sister Theresa Eugene volunteered at St. Anthony's School in Everett, Mass., until she fully retired in 1997. She remained in Massachusetts until 2003.

She is survived by a sister, Harriet Caron; a brother, Harry Jr.; a sister-in-law, Jeanne; nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held in the chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, after which Sister Theresa Eugene was buried in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany.
