Sister Mary Vincentia Jachimski, FSSJ

Sister Mary Vincentia Jachimski died peacefully on Dec. 18, 2019, at St. Francis Park in the 96th year of life and the 75th year of religious life.

Sister Vincentia was born on Feb. 4, 1923, in Westfield, Mass., to Francis and Bernice (Drewnoski) Jachimski. On Sept. 8, 1942, she became a postulant and on July 12, 1947, she professed her final vows with the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph.

Sister Vincentia received her bachelor of science degree at Our Lady of Elms College in Chicopee, Mass. For 43 years, Sister Vincentia served as an educator, including 12 years as a principal. She served in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Sister Vincentia's ministry in the Buffalo area included teaching at Corpus Christi and St. Columba in Buffalo, and St. Francis in Athol Springs. Sister Vincentia completed her years of active ministry by serving on the parish ministry of care team in Chicopee, where she visited the shut-ins and brought them soup and the Eucharist to nurture them in body and soul. She joined her sisters in the care community in Hamburg in 2008 to serve in the ministry of prayer and presence.

Sister Vincentia enjoyed sewing and craft work. In addition, she was a proficient Scrabble player and an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

A viewing will take place Thursday, Dec. 19, from 3-6:30 p.m. at St. Francis Park, 5229 South Park Ave, Hamburg. A funeral Mass will be held in the chapel on Friday, Dec. 20 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
