Diocese of Buffalo promulgates Adult Sexual Misconduct Policy & Procedures and Code of Pastoral Conduct for Clergy

Tue, Sep 24th 2019 02:00 pm

In continuing efforts to address the sexual misconduct of adults, Bishop Malone announces the publication of the Adult Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures for the Diocese of Buffalo alongside a new Code of Pastoral Conduct for Clergy. Both are effective immediately. The Diocese of Buffalo is one of the first Dioceses to promulgate policies for Adult Misconduct in the United States.

In December of 2018, the Adult Sexual Misconduct Task Force began their work. Their mission was to develop policies and procedures for assessing and responding to allegations of sexual misconduct with adults by bishops, priests, deacons, religious, seminarians and lay ecclesial ministers. They were tasked with ensuring that the diocesan policies for adult misconduct complement the existing diocesan policy on child sexual abuse.
