Making learning come to life

As you enter our Maker Space at Immaculate Conception School, you are greeted by the technology room mascot Mip. Mip is a programmable robot that energizes the children from the moment they enter the room. This energy is important as the students begin engaging in various robotic projects such as assembling Hummingbird Robitic kits made out of circuit boards and craft materials, programming Legos to complete tasks or preparing newly purchased underwater Sea Perch robots for a test swim.

If robots aren't what the students are looking to experiment with, students can go to the technology lab and work with Makey Makeys or green screen to practice animation. Makey Makeys are an invention kit that encourages people to find creative ways to interact with their computers, by using every day objects as a replacement for keyboards and mice.

For students interested in a possible career in information technology, Immaculate Conception School offers a new after-school program starting with the second trimester. Students will have the opportunity (under the supervision of our technology teacher) to troubleshoot technology issues at the school, work as a team to refurbish and repair school technology that needs service and shadow an actual professional in the industry.

The technology is not limited to student learning. This past year Immaculate Conception School has added interior and exterior security cameras, remote controlled interior and exterior security doors to limit visitor access. A new public address and school-wide emergency alert and bell system are installed in an ongoing effort to maximize the safety and security of our students.
