Sister Mary Janet Mazierski, 89, a Felician Sister for 69 years, died in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in Buffalo on Nov. 28, 2018. The former Lucille Mazierski was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Buffalo. She entered the Buffalo Province of the Felician Sisters on Sept. 17, 1949, and professed perpetual vows on Aug. 13, 1957. She graduated from Riverside High School in Buffalo and furthered her education at Canisius College of Buffalo earning a bachelor's degree and at Medaille College, Buffalo, with a master of arts degree.

Sister Janet began her ministry as a Catholic elementary school teacher at St. Casimir School in Buffalo. She continued teaching students in elementary grades at several other Catholic schools in the Buffalo Diocese.

In 1964, Sister Janet began teaching at the secondary school level. She taught Latin, English and Spanish at Villa Maria Academy in Buffalo, and at Sacred Heart High School in Syracuse. She then served as director of records at Villa Maria College of Buffalo from 1968 to 1972.

Sister Janet resumed teaching at Cardinal O'Hara High School in Tonawanda in 1972. She returned to Villa Maria Academy in 1980. Six years later she began teaching on a part-time basis. She was very well versed in the languages she taught. A dry sense of humor added to her rapport with the students.  Sister Janet taught at Villa Maria Academy for a total of 28 years.

Her final years of ministry, from 2006 to 2015, were spent as an assistant in the provincial archives.  Because of ill health, Sister Janet became a patient in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo, in July 2015.

Sister Janet was predeceased by her parents, William and Frances (Marlinski) Mazierski and her brother, Richard Mazierski.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m. in the convent chapel. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
