The Foundation for Inclusive Catholic Education (FICE) will continue the conversation about inclusive education in the Diocese of Buffalo, by presenting the keynote speaker for the annual Diocesan School Convocation to be held on Sept. 28. Dr. Michael Boyle from Loyola University in Chicago will address national trends of inclusive education within Catholic Schools.

Boyle has worked in education in a variety of settings and roles. As a school psychologist at both the high school and elementary levels, he worked with students across a broad range of areas of exceptionality. He has also served as a special education administrator in several public school districts. Additionally, Boyle also served as principal in a Catholic elementary school. Boyle is part of Loyola University's educational initiative designed to systematically support Catholic school personnel in serving students with special needs.

Inclusive education, a model that enables students with special needs to learn and grow alongside their peers, is richly rewarding for all students. FICE supports families, educators and Catholic Schools with the resources students with special needs require to experience Catholic education.

In March, FICE honored its second annual Inclusive Educator of the Year when the organization recognized Sheila Kahrimanian, a sixth-grade teacher at St. Mary's School in Swormville. She was recognized for making an impact on the lives of students with special needs at St. Mary's. Kahrimanian, called all of the students in attendance up to the stage to help her accept her award, stating,

"These children are the reasons we are all here."
