Mount St. Mary Academy announces 2017 summer opportunities

Mount St. Mary Academy is proud to present Summer Sessions 2017 for girls entering grades five through eight. The Summer Camps program, running from Aug. 7-11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school, will include a combination of athletic, arts and educational sessions.

The camp offers two morning sessions and two afternoon sessions during which students participate in classes geared towards hands-on learning and active play. The weeklong event allows campers to mingle with other girls their own age in a fun learning environment.

Morning classes include: Dance with Disney, Hello Cupcake!, Funology, Full STEAM Ahead, Red Carpet Reporting, Dodgeball, and more. In the afternoon, participants may choose: Olympic-style games, Wearable Art, Acts of Local Service, Steal the Scene, Art Journal, Digital Photography and more. The camp costs $195 per child and includes a T-shirt and all necessary supplies and materials for each of the sessions.

Athletic camps will be held throughout July.

Volleyball will take place June 26-30. The program, running from June 26-30 from 9 a.m. to noon at the school, will give assistance and skill development to take students to their next level of play. Mount St. Mary Thunder coach Brittany Dodge Schukraft '05 runs the camp assisted by current players. Campers will participate daily in fundamentals and skills development. Players of all experience levels are welcome. The registration fee of $85 includes a camp T-shirt.

Lacrosse will run July 17-21. The program, running from 9 a.m. to noon at Philip Sheridan Field in Kenmore, will give assistance and skill development to take students to their next level of play. Campers of any skill level are welcome and will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game. Campers will work with past players and MSM's coaching team to strengthen individual skills. The registration fee of $85 includes a camp T-shirt.

Tennis will take place July 31- Aug. 4, running from July 31-Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at Kenmore East High School, will give assistance and skill development to take students to their next level of play. Campers of any skill level are welcome and will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game. Campers will work with past players and MSM's coaching team to strengthen individual skills. The registration fee of $85 includes a camp T-shirt.

Basketball will be played Aug. 1-3. The program, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school, will give assistance and skill development to take students to their next level of play. Mount St. Mary Thunder coach Mike McCarthy will run the camp with the assistance of current players and recent graduates from the school's 2015 New York State Catholic School Class B Championship team. Campers will participate daily in fundamentals, footwork routines, agility drills and skills development. Campers will be divided up into teams based on talent for a weeklong basketball tournament. The camp will include daily competitions for both teams and individuals. Players of all experience levels are welcome. The registration fee of $85 includes a camp T-shirt.

MSM will also offer Theater Camp July 24-28, taught by Second Generation Theater co-founder Kelly Copps. The program, held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the school, will offer an opportunity to learn about theater and build acting skills to help campers shine in the spotlight. Campers will participate in singing, dancing and acting activities, as well as meet with other area professional performers. The registration fee of $125 includes a camp T-shirt.

Entrepreneurship Camp June 26-30, hosted by Mount St. Mary Academy's award-winning Virtual Enterprises, will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the school. It will emphasize teamwork as students work together to solve business challenges in the areas of marketing, creative thinking, budgeting and more. Virtual Enterprises is an in-school, global business simulation that offers students a competitive edge through project-based, collaborative learning and the development of 21st-century skills in entrepreneurship, global business, problem solving, communication, personal finance and technology. The registration fee of $85 includes a camp T-shirt.
