Sister Rosemary Anthony, OSF 1931-2017

Sister Rosemary Anthony, formerly Sister Mary Augusta, died Feb. 11, 2017, at Mount St. Mary Hospital in Lewiston. She was 85.

She was born April 14, 1931, in Buffalo, to Anthony F. and Louise Jean (Corey) Anthony. She joined the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity in Stella Niagara in 1949 and professed perpetual vows in 1955. Sister Rosemary received a bachelor's degree from Rosary Hill College, now Daemen College in Amherst, in 1960.

In 1952, her ministry began as a teacher at St. Ann School, Buffalo, where she served from 1952-55 and 1958-61, between which she served at St. Agnes School in Atlantic Highlands  , N.J. In 1961, she became a teacher at St. Peter School in Lewiston, later serving as its principal.

Sister Rosemary briefly served as principal of St. Benedict School in Eggertsville from 1967-68, after which she served at Sacred Heart School in Columbus, Ohio, in the same capacity. She returned to the Diocese of Buffalo to serve as St. Ann's principal from 1970-88.

In 1988, Sister Rosemary began clerical duties at St. Ann Parish in Buffalo, where she also did outreach service. She retired in 2006 and became a resident of the Stella Niagara Health Center in December 2016.

She is survived by siblings Dolores M. Anthony, Sister Donna Marie Anthony, OSF, Ronald J. Anthony, John J. (Katherine) Anthony, and Gloria J. Paz; 10 nieces and nephews, and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held in the sisters' chapel in Stella Niagara, with burial in Stella Niagara Cemetery.
