The board of trustees of Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School in Buffalo has appointed Kevin P. McLaughlin to the newly created position of president, effective July 1.

In his new role as president, McLaughlin will provide professional, institutional, and educational leadership and will be responsible for integrating the Franciscan charism through the overall administration of the school.

He will work in collaboration with the board of trustees to provide oversight of the school's academic programs, advancement and alumni relations, marketing and enrollment management, finances and facilities.

He will also help provide oversight on the overall spiritual and communal well-being of Timon's students, faculty and staff.

"I look forward to serving the Timon community in this new capacity," McLaughlin said. "Timon has played a significant role in the life of the South Buffalo and Southtown communities - and we have great potential to realize profound growth and renewed energy."

This appointment is made as part of a transition in leadership model for Timon. It was recently announced that Thomas J. Sullivan will retire after 22 years as principal at the end of the current school year in June.

He will continue his service to Timon as coordinator of special projects until his full retirement in June 2017.

The board of trustees, following best practices of secondary and higher education institutions on a regional and national level, decided to initiate a president/principal model of school leadership.

A subcommittee comprised of McLaughlin, school trustees, independent academic professionals, and a member of Holy Name Province of the Friars Minor have begun the process to identify and appoint a new principal who will be responsible for implementing all academic strategies moving forward.

McLaughlin, a 1979 graduate of Bishop Timon High School, was hired in 2006 to lead the newly formed Office of Advancement as director of Advancement. In 2013 The board of trustees expanded his responsibilities by appointing him chief operating officer.

In 2000 he received the certified fund-raising executive credential.
