Niagara University offering children's summer STEM camps

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY — Niagara University's College of Education, for several years, has sought to provide access to quality science, technology, engineering, and math education for children - especially girls and low-income youths, who studies show enter the STEM fields at the lowest rates.

This summer, the college's Institute of Applied Learning will offer three summer camps intended to engage young people in the practical application of science, technology, engineering and math.
A new STEM camp has been added this year for children ages 5-7. The camp will focus on introducing children to STEM activities and developing critical thinking skills. The dates are July 25-28 from 9 a.m.-noon. Registration is $50.

Grades 3-8: July 25-28, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The cost is $100.
Young Women's Camp (grades 6-9): Aug. 1-4, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The cost is $100.

The camps will focus on energy and advanced manufacturing, both in content and in college and career readiness activities. Emphasis in the Young Women's Camp will also be placed on personal development, etiquette and leadership.

The registration fee covers camp materials, lunch and snacks. Transportation is not provided.

Natural resources around Niagara University will be utilized as field components for students to experience inquiry-based learning and real-life applications applicable to career clusters in the energy fields.

All activities will be aligned to the New York State Learning, Common Core, College and Career Readiness Standards, and Next Generation Science standards.

English as
Second Language Camp

Niagara University's College of Education is offering a summer camp designed to teach non-English speaking children in grades K-5 the fundamentals of writing and speaking the language.
The camp takes place July 18-21, with sessions running from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

A $25 registration fee covers camp materials and snacks. Transportation to Niagara is not provided.
