Sister Victoria Dixon, OSF, 1934-2015

Sister Victoria Dixon, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity, died June 18, 2015, in the Stella Niagara Health Center. She was 80 years old.

Victoria Dixon was born July 22, 1934, in Summit Station, Ohio, and was the daughter of William and Victoria (Youngman) Dixon. She became a Sister of St. Francis in 1952 and professed vows in 1955.

Sister Victoria received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Rosary Hill College, now Daemen College in Amherst, and a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Detroit. She received a second master's degree in computer science and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

In 1955, Sister Victoria began her ministry at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School in Stella Niagara, and also taught at Sacred Heart Academy in Buffalo, Rosary Hill College and Canisius College in Buffalo. Outside of Western New York, she taught at St. Francis de Sales High School in Columbus, Ohio.

Sister Victoria was formerly known as Sister Marie Therese Dixon. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1984 and retired to live at the Stella Niagara Health Center in 1987, where she served as a tutor and assisted refugees waiting to enter Canada.

She is survived by five sisters, Rita Brooks, Florine Clark, Virginia (Duane) Dailey, Betty Herb and Rose (Doug) Lingel; a brother, Robert (Mary) Dixon, her siblings' families and close friend Joanne Statt.

A funeral Mass was held in the sisters' chapel at Stella Niagara, with burial in Stella Niagara Cemetery.
