St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute has announced the appointment of Brother Christopher Belleman, FSC, as principal, effective immediately.

Currently serving as interim principal of the independent, Catholic school in Kenmore, Brother Chris has been a trusted member of the St. Joe's community since September 2004. In his 11 years with the school, he has also assumed the roles of Vice Principal for Student Affairs and Spanish teacher.

Brother Chris has been a Christian Brother since 1981, dedicating his life to the vision of St. John Baptist de La Salle through working in education.  His knowledge of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute's Lasallian mission is integral to his new role.

"I am absolutely delighted to appoint Brother Chris the next principal of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute," said Robert T. Scott, AFSC, president of the all boys school. "He brings with him the dedication true to his vocation, a clear knowledge of our school and our commitment to academic excellence, and most significantly, a genuine concern for the young men who have been entrusted to our care."

The appreciation Brother Chris has for the mission of the school is strengthened by his coursework at The Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies at St. Mary's College in Moraga, Calif., an intensive, three-year Lasallian formation program, which he will complete this summer. He has also been honored with the Lasallian Educator of the Year award in 2000 and 2010.

Before joining St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, Brother Chris served as principal at La Salle Institute in Troy, N.Y. He received his master's degree in Spanish Education from the University at Albany in 1992 and his master's in Educational Administration from Canisius College in 2011.

Brother Chris currently serves on the Board of Trustees for both St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute and De La Salle Collegiate in Warren, Mich.
