Importance of papacy hot topic for April's 'Our Daily Bread'

The pope can be defined as the bishop of Rome and head of the Roman Catholic Church. The history of the papacy spans from the time of St. Peter to the present day.

Together, while in the kitchen, Father Paul D. Seil, host of "Our Daily Bread," is joined by friend and fellow priest, Father Adolph Kowalczyk, pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish in Orchard Park, to discuss the role of a pope and what he represents for Catholics today.

"I have seen three popes in person," Father Seil said. "I have only met Pope Benedict. They all have different styles and charisms. Pope Francis has the ability to take deep theological ideas and construct his words so as to simplify the Church's message. It helps me to look at ancient realities in new ways."

Now because "Our Daily Bread" is a cooking show, the question of what a pope likes to eat did come up ... at least in the research end of the production. There are a few cookbook blogs that have quite a breakdown of each pope and the menu they enjoyed.

The specials of the day are Father Seil's monk fish, fresh fruit dessert and Father Kowalczyk's Polish hunter's stew.

Tune in to "Our Daily Bread" Saturday, April 12, at 5:30 a.m. and noon on WKBW-TV Ch. 7. Remember to check out the website, along with the Daybreak Facebook page and YouTube channel.
