New evangelization commission looks to bring back Catholics

A new diocesan commission has been formed to implement one of Bishop Richard J. Malone's initiatives, New Evangelization. The Commission for Promotion of the New Evangelization is seeking to find ways to engage and reengage Catholics who may have fallen away from the Church.
Teens told to use talents to evangelize

The youth of the Diocese of Buffalo have been tasked with evangelization. While attending a faith rally known as Da Bounce, held March 21, they gained the tools to bring the Gospel to others. Father David Muñoz, OMI, told the 55 teens gathered to use their gifts and talents to spread the word of Jesus Christ.

The other day, I came across a monologue called "Unafraid," about a young girl from Somalia whose father was a missionary. His passion for sharing Christ landed him in jail and he was beaten because he was Christian. Nevertheless he continued teaching about Jesus to the prisoners and to everyone around him.

On Nov. 24, 2013, the feast of Christ the King, Pope Francis presented our Church with his first apostolic exhortation "Evangelii Gaudium" which translates to Joy of the Gospel. This exhortation is divided into five chapters: The Church's Missionary Transformation, Amid the Crisis of Communal Commitment, The Proclamation of the Gospel, The Social Dimension of Evangelization and Spirit-filled Evangelizers. The apostolic exhortation speaks both to evangelization and social justice.
Stan is Catholic on purpose

Stan is a cradle Catholic, from a large family. A doctor by trade, he married and raised two children. Perhaps it comes as no surprise that he stays quite active and healthy. What may be a surprise is that he wears a scapular, and spends more time praying the rosary, attending Mass or adoration, and reading the Bible than he does in recreation or exercise.

The Year of Faith is almost over, and the Diocese of Buffalo came together AT St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Buffalo Sunday afternoon to celebrate the theme, as well as move forward with a renewed focus on New Evangelization.

WASHINGTON—The U.S. bishops want to provide an opportunity for all Catholics to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, according to a new document from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Disciples Called to Witness: The New Evangelization focuses on reaching out to Catholics, practicing or not, who have lost a sense of the faith in an effort to re-energize them.

The Office of Parish life is using video faith stories and a multitude of other resources on its new website, www.evangelizebuffalo.org, which went live earlier this month.
