Sister M. Julie O'Stroske 1929-2019

Sister M. Julie O'Stroske died Feb. 28, 2019, at the Stella Niagara Health Center. She was 89.

The former Virginia O'Stroske was the daughter of the late Martin O'Stroske and the late Mary Ann Walch O'Stroske. Born Oct. 1, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio, Sister Julie graduated from Sacred Heart Commercial High School in Columbus and Rosary Hill (now Daemen) College in Amherst, earning a bachelor's degree in education.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity on Sept. 5, 1950, at Stella Niagara. She professed her first vows on Aug. 18, 1953, at Stella Niagara and perpetual vows three years later.

A longtime teacher, Sister Julie taught at St. Peter School, Lewiston, where she later served as superior/principal. She also taught at St. Lawrence School, Buffalo. She spent the bulk of her ministry serving in schools, parish ministry, home health care and pastoral care in the Diocese of Columbus, Ohio. She taught briefly in Charleston, W.Va.

Sister Julie retired at Sunbury, Ohio in 2002 and at Stella Niagara in 2014, where she became a resident of the Stella Niagara Health Center in February 2018.

She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Martin and John, and sister Rita.

A funeral Mass took place March 4 at the Sisters' Chapel, Stella Niagara. Burial followed at the sisters' cemetery.
