St. Francis Park announces free community events for seniors

St. Francis Park, Catholic Health's new senior living community in Hamburg, is hosting a series of special events in May. These events are free and open to the public as well as residents of St. Francis Park. 

Food Truck Friday: The Salad Bar Truck - Friday, May 3, 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
Choose from fresh and healthy options to build your perfect lunch! Look for the truck in the front parking lot at St. Francis Park. The Salad Bar accepts cash or credit. No reservations necessary.

Gentle Chair Yoga - 
Monday, May 6, 1:00pm - 2:00pm; RSVP before May 2
Monday, May 13, 1:00 - 2:00pm; RSVP before May 9
Monday, May 20, 1:00 - 2:00pm; RSVP before May 17
Yoga is a great activity for the mind, body, and soul. Join us for a group yoga session as we follow a guided video presentation from Shannon Basham.  All levels are welcome, no prior yoga experience is necessary. Light refreshments will be provided. Fall Prevention and Home Safety - Wednesday, May 8, 1:00pm - 2:30pm
As we age, falls become an ever-increasing risk to our independence and overall health.  Join licensed occupational therapist, Darcie Bittner from Catholic Health, as she discusses common fall hazards and what you can do to prevent accidents at home. She'll cover adaptive equipment, simple upper body exercises, and memory management techniques to keep you living safely and independently. This event is FREE and open to the public. Mother's Day Tea - Friday, May 10, 1:00pm - 2:00pm 
Celebrate the moms in your life at this special Mother's Day Tea. There will be refreshments and entertainment provided by magician, Ted Burzynski, from It's Magic of Course. This event is FREE and open to the public. Reservations are required by calling 649-1205 before May 8.

Guardianship Elder Abuse - Wednesday, May 151:00pm - 2:30pm 
Having the right person care for aging loved ones is extremely important. According to the National Institute on Aging, each year, hundreds of thousands of adults over age 60 are abused, neglected, or financially exploited. Join attorney Robert Friedman, as he discusses elder financial abuse and the role Mental Hygiene Article 81 Guardians, banks and Court Evaluators play in protecting seniors. He'll also discuss how to petition for guardianship, the guardian's powers of responsibility, and how to prevent elder abuse. Light refreshments will be provided. Painting with a Twist! - Thursday, May 16, 1:00pm-3:00pm
Uncork your creative side! Enjoy painting, wine, cheese and crackers while you are guided through creating a masterpiece. All supplies are provided- just bring your imagination! Reservations are required by calling 649-1205 before May 13.

Outsmart the Scammers - Wednesday, May 22, 1:00pm-2:30pm
Incidents of fraud are on the rise as scammers' tactics become more complex. Sonja Jensen-Schell, Financial Advisor, Edward Jones, will discuss how to spot fraud, what to do if you or a loved one are targeted, and what you can do to protect yourself. Reservations are required by calling 649-1205 before May 20.
