The Catholic League for Religious Assistance to the Church in Poland continues the good work envisioned 74 years ago and continues to reflect, develoop and expand its present needs. Much has changed in the last seven decades, but love and fidelity to our faith, the mission of the Church and heritage remain steadfast. "For on the shoulders of the giants of the past (clergy and laity), we stand to build the present and influence the future," is a phrase I have heard, and it describes that spirit well.

The United States of America is the most generous country in the world, and the Diocese of Buffalo is one of the most generous dioceses in the country. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to the August 2016 Catholic League Appeal. Through your generosity, the Catholic League is able to fulfill its commitment of support to priests from Poland furthering higher studies at the Polish Pontifical Institute and the Polish Pontifical College, both in Rome. Scholarships are usually awarded to 20 young, talented priests. Dziekuje, grazie, gracias, danke. Our deepest gratitude to the priests, pastors, deacons, parish administrators, religious and beloved laity across the diocese for their continued support, despite the many other financial obligations they have.

The Diocese of Buffalo, the "cradle" of the Catholic League, is now a national organization. It all began in 1942-43. During the last two appeals, the Buffalo Diocese contributed the most, followed by Detroit, Chicago, Scranton and others. Buffalo is strong in many ways. We take pride in that. Let's keep it that way.

Seventy-six parishes contributed in 2015, while 86 parishes contributed to the 2016 appeal. Many personal contributions were received from the laity in nearby and distant cities. Our profound gratitude. Thus, we are able to forward $48,673.43, the total of last year's appeal.
