Sister Alice Williams, SSJ (1934-2017)

Sister Alice Williams, SSJ, died March 27, 2017, in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville.

She was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Buffalo, to Francis and Katherine (Hauser) Williams. She joined the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1952 and professed final vows in 1960.

Sister Alice held bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Mount St. Joseph College, now Medaille College, in Buffalo. For 18 years, she taught middle and upper grades at schools in Attica, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Lackawanna and Salamanca.

In 1974, she received a second bachelor's degree in medical records administration from Rosary Hill College, now Daemen College in Amherst, and subsequently served at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Lackawanna for 40 years. She served as a medical librarian before becoming the hospital's assistant director of medical records. In 1989, she was named director of the medical records department.

After OLV Hospital closed in 2003, Sister Alice served as health information coordinator at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence in Clarence until her death. In addition to her other ministries, Sister Alice served as a cantor for liturgies and celebrations at the residence.

She is survived by a sister, Sister Susan Williams, SSJ.

A funeral Mass was held in the sisters' residence in Clarence, with burial in the Sisters Section of Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo.
