Bishop Richard J. Malone will talk about family life and marriage as one of two keynote speakers at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast (NCPB), Thursday, May 7, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C.  Texas Governor Greg Abbott is also scheduled to speak.

Bishop Malone was invited to speak at the breakfast in his role as Chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, and his outspoken defense of religious freedom, the family and the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.

"I am truly honored to have been chosen to speak on matters of such urgency at this significant national event," Bishop Malone said.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the NCPB, which was established in 2004 in response to Saint John Paul II's call for a New Evangelization.

The theme of this year's breakfast is Family, based on the upcoming Vatican-sponsored World Meeting of Families Congress this September in Philadelphia, and the Synod of Bishops on the Family at the Vatican in October.

NCPB is made up entirely of volunteers and is a registered non-profit entity.
