Sister Mary Angeline (Donald) Bierut, CSSF, died Aug. 8, 2017, in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in Buffalo. She was 96.

The former Angeline Bierut was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Lackawanna, to Joseph and Josephine (Partyka) Bierut. After graduating from Lackawanna High School, she joined the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province of the Felician Sisters in Buffalo in 1939 and professed perpetual vows in 1947. Sister Angeline received bachelor's and master's degrees from Canisius College in Buffalo.

For the first 25 years of her ministry, Sister Angeline served on the staff of "Ave Maria," a Polish-language monthly magazine, where she was a staff member and editor. She later moved to Syracuse to teach fourth grade at Sacred Heart School, and social studies at nearby Sacred Heart High School.

After returning home, she taught at Holy Apostles SS. Peter & Paul School and St. Luke School, both in Buffalo, and St. John de LaSalle in Niagara Falls, From 1970-82, she taught at Villa Maria Academy in Buffalo. She also served at the convent office of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province.

In 1986, Sister Angeline began serving at Villa Maria College in Buffalo, where she was an audiovisual media assistant and a library technology assistant for non-print services. Since she was fluent in Polish, she tutored in these languages and translated archival materials. She also served at St. Francis Residence Convent. In 2012, Sister Angeline became a patient at the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held in the convent chapel, with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
