Seminary to hold Advent Vespers Service

Thu, Nov 17th 2016 01:00 pm

Christ the King Seminary will host its annual Advent vespers service on the second Sunday of Advent, Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. in the seminary's St. John Vianney Chapel. All are welcome.

The Most Reverend Richard J. Malone, bishop of Buffalo, will preside.

Alan Lukas, director of music for the seminary and the Diocese of Buffalo, will lead the Christ the King Seminary Festival chorus, made up of seminarians, faculty and others at the seminary through a selected arrangement of Scripture passages and sacred songs.

This Lord's Day solemn prayer opens with a chanted dialogue and seasonal hymn, then continues with sung psalms and New Testament Canticle. A reading from sacred scripture is followed by a sung "Magnificat," the traditional Canticle of Mary. General intercessions, the Lord's Prayer, a closing prayer and final blessing with sung dismissal will bring vespers to a conclusion.

A free-will offering will be received and a Christmas reception will follow the service.
