Sound Board: It takes a bad knee to see the good

One second; that's how long it takes for a injury to occur. In my case, that is exactly how long it took for me to be out of sports for six months. I am now in my fourth month of recovery from surgery to replace my torn ACL, lateral meniscus, and medial meniscus and I can say that while the experience definitely wasn't fun, it wasn't entirely bad either.

If I could pick out one positive experience from the injury, it would be all the times people went out of their way to help me. As someone who always thinks they can do everything themselves, it was hard for me to realize that I physically could not do what I could before. Going to class became an activity that would make me sweat, and simply bending my right knee turned into an exercise.

Because of my struggle, there were times when I would ask God where He was and why this had happened to me. It took me a while to realize that God was with me the entire time. He was showing Himself through others. I had classmates and teachers always asking me if I needed help carrying my backpack. I had teammates and coaches supporting me with every improvement I made with my physical therapy. I had friends who would always make me laugh when I needed it the most. I had family members sleeping downstairs with me so that I wouldn't be lonely. Everyone's kindness encouraged me to keep working hard in physical therapy and even in everyday life.

Today, I'd just like to thank everyone for all they have done for me and encourage people to be that kindness to others too.
