Bands, food and giveaways to be highlighted at annual Church of the Annunciation picnic

A weekend filled with live music, classic cars, numerous raffles and delicious food offerings will highlight the 80th annual summer picnic at the Church of the Annunciation, 7580 Clinton St., Elma. The event kicks off on Friday, Aug. 18, and concludes with a grand drawing the evening of Sunday, Aug. 20.


The fun begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, with a delicious fish fry, a Classic Car Cruise Night from 6 to 9 p.m. and music by Back Beat '64 from 7 to 11 p.m.


Activities on Saturday, Aug. 19, will kick off at 1 p.m. and will include a pork chop dinner at 4 p.m., musical entertainment by Jonny Peresan from 1 to 3 p.m., a Drive Time Polka live remote from 3 to 7 p.m., and music by by Hit N Run from 7 to 11 p.m. Parish volunteers will also be serving Annunciation's famous clam chowder throughout the day. A special blessing of motorcycles and riders will take place outside the church at 6:15 p.m.


A Polish Polka Mass at 11:30 a.m. featuring John Stanczyk & Rare Vintage will kick things off on Sunday, Aug. 20. Sunday's menu will include a Wendel's chicken barbecue beginning at noon and another opportunity to sample Annunciation's famous chowder. Dan McPartlan's Other Band will play from 12:30 to 3 p.m., followed by The Buffalo Touch from 4 to 8 p.m. First responders and emergency vehicles will receive a special blessing outside the church at 12:45 p.m.


Annunciation's picnic will also feature cash raffles as well as opportunities to win a 24-month Chevy Cruze car lease or an amazing vacation package, a night on the town, a handcrafted Amish quilt and more. Other highlights include theme baskets, games of chance, a food court and beer tent.


A kids' area featuring carnival games, a bounce house, musical entertainment and lots of activities will be open all three days until 7 p.m.
